Description:

We’re supporting our client in hiring a Commodity Manager. This role focuses on building and managing strategic sourcing plans for key commodities including textiles, technology, systems, and mechanical engineering to ensure a resilient, cost-effective, and flexible supply chain. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining operational performance and helping the business adapt to changing market demands.


This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable organisation in the defence sector.


This will be an office-based role for six months then move to a hybrid working pattern. The office is based in Denham, near Uxbridge.


Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and maintain commodity strategies aligned with business needs.

  • Create actionable plans to deliver those strategies effectively.

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment and buy-in.

  • Lead make-or-buy decisions and support internal capability development.

  • Manage cross-functional teams to deliver long-term sourcing plans.

  • Support tactical execution and performance tracking with Account Managers.

  • Maintain the supply chain risk register and define mitigation plans.

  • Resolve supplier issues related to quality, delivery, or technical challenges.

  • Work with design teams early in the development cycle to ensure supply chain readiness.

  • Lead supplier negotiations and present cost-based reports to stakeholders.

  • Represent the supply chain in customer meetings and external audits.

  • Support proposal development for new business opportunities.


Experience & Knowledge



  • Engineering background with commercial sourcing experience.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing methods and supply chain operations.

  • Proven project/programme management experience.


Skills & Competencies



  • Strong grasp of procurement processes and best practices.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

  • Analytical thinker with clear communication skills.

  • Knowledge of supplier capabilities and industry networks.

  • Excellent negotiation and team leadership abilities.


Qualifications



  • Degree or HND in Engineering, Production, or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • CIPS would be beneficial
