Shop Floor Supervisor


We are recruiting for an experienced Shop Floor Supervisor to join a busy manufacturing environment in Portsmouth. This is a hands on role managing a team of up to 30 operators, ensuring production runs efficiently while maintaining high standards across organisation, discipline, safety and quality.


This position would suit someone with a strong production or manufacturing background who is confident leading people, enforcing standards and driving improvements across the workshop floor. Lean manufacturing experience would be highly advantageous.


The role


You will be responsible for the day to day running of the shop floor, ensuring production targets are achieved whilst maintaining an organised, safe and productive environment.


Key responsibilities include:



  • Managing and supervising a team of up to 30 operators

  • Maintaining discipline, timekeeping and overall performance standards

  • Ensuring the workshop remains organised, clean and efficient at all times

  • Monitoring equipment, tooling and work areas to maintain operational standards

  • Supporting and developing operators through coaching and training

  • Identifying training needs and keeping training records up to date

  • Leading daily production meetings and communicating priorities clearly

  • Supporting continuous improvement activities across layout, systems and processes

  • Driving high standards of quality, housekeeping and health & safety

  • Managing WIP, stock control and materials within the production area

  • Working closely with engineering and quality teams to resolve production issues


What we are looking for



  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing or engineering environment

  • Proven experience supervising or managing teams on a shop floor

  • Confident managing performance and holding people accountable to standards

  • Strong organisation and communication skills

  • Experience improving processes and maintaining structured working environments

  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement knowledge would be beneficial

  • Able to work in a fast paced environment and prioritise workload effectively
